A Birth Place of African American Culture
|
It’s hard to believe that little ole Savannah could be partly
responsible for shaping the culture of an entire nation. The
city was once a leader in world trade, legally and illegally
importing countless slaves from West Africa for nearly a
century. The people brought their vital skills (carpentry,
agriculture, artistry, navigation, metal work, etc.) and their
unique sense of taste, hearing, sight, kinesthetics, and
science. These stolen gifts created today what the world
instinctively takes for granted, such as the amazing music,
dance, cuisine, sports, and technology. It’s impossible really
to measure the contributions of the southern born black
American.
