Dear Nana:
I have three siblings whose children are all either brown-skinned, light-skinned, or have
“good hair”. My children look like average black folks, and their grandmother treats them
like distant relatives. She spoils all her other grands. She never wanted me to marry my
dark husband. Is my mom an intra-racist?

Nana:
I don’t know what an intra-racist is, but she probably doesn’t like dark-skinned people.
Too many blacks still feel that way. It all goes back to – YES – slavery. If we would stop
avoiding our damaging yet magnificent history, maybe we could all finally heal.
